Nurses in Migori County have suspended their strike following an agreement with Governor Ochillo Ayacko’s administration.

The branch union leadership signed a return-to-work deal which would see their main issues, which include the implementation of the 2017 CBA, being addressed.

Kenya National Union of Nurses branch acting chairman Ezekiel Mbira said about 200 nurses who had stagnated at one job group have started receiving letters for promotion.

He said they had also reached an agreement with the county government to hire more nurses to address shortages.

“We have stated the way forward in addressing the shortage that the county faces,” Mbira said.

Migori Health CEC Caleb Opondi thanked the nurses for calling off their strike while highlighting the county government’s commitment to ensuring that nurses’ welfare was taken care of.

“We want to assure the public that we had a fruitful meeting and services in all public hospitals will resume in less than 24 hours,” Opondi said.
