Mara Sports Festival Targets Sh7mn Investment in Youth Talent
NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 6 – Organizers of the upcoming Mara Sports Festival in Nairobi are betting on corporate sponsorships and equipment investments to build Kenya’s next generation of athletes while injecting fresh capital into the sports economy.
The festival, scheduled for December 6–11 at Ulinzi Sports Complex and Nyayo Stadium, is expected to attract 15,000 young athletes competing across 19 disciplines.
A total of Sh7 million worth of sports equipment will be distributed to participating schools and communities, with each institution projected to receive about Sh50,000 on average.
“This is more than a tournament. It’s about inspiring the next generation, giving them confidence, unity, and a love for sport that will last a lifetime,” said Chandresh Sagar, Founder and CEO of Peak Target, the company behind the initiative.
“The whole idea is to make sports accessible. It should not be a luxury; it should be a commodity that every child, regardless of background, can embrace.”
The festival seeks to position sports as an investment frontier, with organizers eyeing partnerships with corporates, federations, and international scouts.
Sagar said the event could act as a talent pipeline for scholarships and professional opportunities, while providing sponsors with brand visibility and access to a youthful consumer base.
Analysts note that Kenya’s sports economy remains underdeveloped despite global success in athletics.
By formalizing youth competitions and strengthening grassroots infrastructure, events such as the Mara Festival could expand the sector’s value chain from equipment supply and sponsorships to training academies and professional leagues.
Registration closes on September 30, with over 35,000 entries anticipated.
