Kisumu set to host regional ASK show

Kisumu is preparing to host the regional Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show, scheduled to run from Wednesday, July 16 to July 20, 2025 at the Mamboleo Showground.

The ASK show is expected to attract thousands of participants, exhibitors, and visitors from across the country and the East African nations.

With the theme, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” the Kisumu ASK Show aims to highlight innovations and strategies that align with the evolving climate and economic landscape of the region.

Kisumu Regional Show Chairman George Ong’udi said the 2025 edition has already attracted more than 150 exhibitors, from sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, housing, education, banking, hospitality, and both public and private institutions.

“This year’s show is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most diverse we’ve had,” Ong’udi said. “We are not only welcoming exhibitors from within Kenya but also from neighboring countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. Farmers from as far as Kericho, Nandi, and Busia are also expected to attend.”

The Mamboleo Showground, strategically located along Miwani Road off the Kisumu-Kakamega highway, just 3 kilometers from Kisumu’s Central Business District and 4 kilometers from Kisumu International Airport, has long served as a central hub for agricultural and trade exhibitions.

Since its elevation to regional show status in 2010, it has consistently attracted a cross-border audience, making it a premier destination for innovation and business networking.

Ong’udi noted that the ASK Show serves as a key learning platform, particularly for students and young farmers, who will get to interact with cutting-edge agricultural technologies, sustainable farming practices, and business ideas.

“We expect not less than 800,000 visitors during the course of the event,” he said. “This includes a huge number of students and educators who view the show as an interactive classroom. It’s also an opportunity for farmers to adopt climate-smart solutions and connect with experts from various industries.”

To ensure a smooth and secure event, the Kisumu County security team has heightened preparations. County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place ahead of the show.

“Our County Police Commander has already issued an operational plan. We’ll deploy enough officers to patrol the showground, the city, and surrounding areas throughout the week,” said Leparmorijo.

“Kisumu is generally peaceful, and there should be no cause for alarm. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the exhibitions and the serene atmosphere of our beautiful lake city.”

While the chief guest for the event is yet to be officially announced, Leparmorijo noted that the decision lies with the ASK patron and will be communicated in due course.

Beyond exhibitions, the show will also feature live demonstrations, agribusiness forums, innovation competitions, and entertainment segments designed to appeal to all age groups.

This blend of learning and leisure continues to make the Kisumu Regional ASK Show one of the most significant events on the national calendar.
