Kenya caterpillar dealer embraces AI for heavy machinery
NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 4 – Mantrac Kenya, the authorised Caterpillar dealer in the country, is banking on artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable solutions, and digital transformation in its next phase of development as Caterpillar marks 100 years of global operations.
Managing Director Mohammed Ibrahim said the strategy is anchored on providing customers with dependable service delivery while responding to Kenya’s infrastructure and construction needs.
“Our main objective is getting to what the country needs. We want to make customers get value for their money,” said Ibrahim.
Among the company’s focus areas are AI-powered autonomous robots for underground construction, a move it says will significantly enhance worker safety on sites.
Mantrac has also embedded AI into Caterpillar heavy machinery, such as bulldozers equipped with geofencing and locking systems to prevent misuse by unscrupulous handlers. With this technology, machines cannot move outside their designated zones, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The systems further allow contractors to lay out and lock construction plans, boosting efficiency.
The company added it can remotely access its equipment when breakdowns occur and provide diagnostics, a capability that underscores its commitment to rapid, tech-driven service support.
Mantrac Group operates as the authorised Caterpillar dealer across nine countries on three continents, including Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Russia (Western Siberia), Tanzania, Uganda, and Iraq, supported offshore through Unatrac’s export offices in the United Kingdom and Dubai.
