Buruburu Quickmart employee suspended after alleged assault on customer

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 5 – Quickmart Supermarket has suspended an employee at its Buruburu branch following allegations of assaulting a customer who attempted to serve herself milk using a vending machine.

A video circulating on social media shows the customer, accompanied by her brother, recounting how she was physically assaulted by a staff member after unknowingly dispensing milk without staff authorization.

The visibly shaken woman says she was unaware that customers were not allowed to serve themselves and had expressed remorse during the incident. Despite this, she alleges that she was beaten by the employee.

In a statement, Quickmart acknowledged the incident and confirmed that the employee involved has been suspended pending investigations.

“We deeply regret the distress this incident has caused and sincerely apologize to the affected customer and anyone else who feels let down by this experience,” the retailer said.

Quickmart added that it does not condone any behavior that goes against its values of respect, kindness, and integrity. The company also said it has reached out to the affected customer to offer apologies and support.

The supermarket noted that its employees regularly undergo training to uphold high standards of conduct and service and promised a thorough investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked public outcry online, with many calling for accountability and better customer care standards in retail outlets.
