MTN, Cloudflare Debut Managed Security In SA

MTN Business and Cloudflare have strengthened their commercial bond, installing MTN as South Africa’s first local Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) for Cloudflare. The agreement places Cloudflare’s network protections and identity-first controls inside a managed service that MTN will operate and sell to organisations across the country.

Two key features of the solution are application-layer protection, which protects and accelerates web services, and Zero Trust access, which allows or prohibits access depending on identity, device posture, and situational context. And, as Cloudflare’s local MSSP, MTN operates, monitors, integrates and bills the solution, giving organisations a single, scalable security fabric that improves performance, speeds deployment and enforces policy across their estate. MTN will combine its local commercial and support infrastructure with Cloudflare’s global security backbone.

Cyberattacks across the region have multiplied, overwhelming internal teams and revealing the weakness of old perimeter-based defenses. With employees scattered and applications hosted in the cloud, companies now require swift, centrally managed safeguards that extend seamlessly across every environment. According to the companies, the partnership provides that capability as a managed service, offering organisations access to a unified layer of control without the burden of building it internally.

“Cloudflare is the only company offering a broad range of network security and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) services through a unified platform built on our own infrastructure, delivering the most comprehensive set of managed solutions. Service providers like MTN are essential to extending critical security protections at scale, and we are thrilled to be partnering together to help protect businesses across Africa,” said Tom Evans, Chief Partner Officer at Cloudflare.

“We are thrilled to be the first Cloudflare MSSP partner in South Africa. This collaboration enables us to bring best-in-class cybersecurity solutions to our customers, offering market-leading protection,” said David Behr, Executive for MTN ICT Converged Solutions. “Unlike outdated legacy architecture solutions, Cloudflare’s connectivity cloud suite of solutions delivers unparalleled security, providing businesses the confidence to operate in an increasingly digital

The companies say the service is designed to fit alongside existing IT systems, with MTN responsible for operation and upkeep. The rollout will begin in South Africa, with the possibility of extending the model to other markets where MTN already operates.
