Barnabas Sang Moves To MICDE As ICT Director
Barnabas Sang has transitioned to the role as the Director of ICT for the State Department for ICT & Digital Economy under the Ministry of Information Communication & Digital Economy. This is after he served in a similar role in the State Department for Basic Education under the Ministry of Education.
Prior to his role at the Ministry of Education, Sang served as National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) System Administrator at the MOE. During his tenure, he managed the unit responsible for education data, leading a team of 12 developers and senior users to support NEMIS. This system is accessed by over 500,000 users, including education managers, parents, and hospitals, particularly through its role in managing the EduAfya Programme for secondary school students’ universal healthcare coverage.
Sang has also held the position of County Executive Committee Member for Uasin Gishu County, where he was responsible for overseeing ICT development efforts. He led the county’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy, formulating policies and strategies that were shared across all 47 counties, ensuring the development of a unified ICT master plan for county governments.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management, Information Technology from the University of Wales, a Master’s in Information Technology from Strathmore University, and a Master’s in GIS and Remote Sensing from Moi University. His extensive experience and academic background make him well-positioned to lead the State Department’s digital transformation initiatives.
