A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Homa Bay County for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old adopted daughter.

The man was arrested at Mulundu Beach, Mfangano Island in Suba West Sub-County.

It was reported that the man defiled the girl on Thursday morning in their house at Mulundu Beach.

According to the Deputy County Commissioner of Suba West, Samson Akach, the man committed the heinous act when the girl’s mother had left for Remba Island, where she was going to sell fish at dawn on Thursday.

The girl woke up early in the morning to wash utensils in the house before she could go to school on time.

The DCC said the matter came to their attention after the girl’s mother saw the girl limping due to the injuries she sustained during the defilement act.

“Her mother returned home and asked her what had happened. The girl said she had been defiled by her father,” Akach said.

That time, the man had disappeared into Lake Victoria.

Security officers in the area liaised with fishermen who went into the lake, got hold of the suspect, and handed him over to them.

He was arrested and detained at the Sena Police Station.

The man recently married the girl’s mother and adopted her as his daughter.

Akach warned the area residents against violating the rights of children.

“Let residents respect the sexual rights of children. We are not going to tolerate this man and any other person with similar intentions in the future,” Akach said.
